Tell us something interesting about your background.

As a graduate student, I studied rhetorical criticism with a focus on presidential rhetoric. This is a very traditional approach within this field; however, I took what I believe was a unique perspective by infusing my studies with literary criticism. I wanted to learn how we use language to communicate who we could become as a community/ies. I did this because I knew that there is power in defining identity and community, and that at all levels of leadership we need to exercise this power with responsibility, compassion, and courage. I have tried to live out this commitment in my life and to support others in doing the same.

What has led you to your current role?

My life's purpose has been guided by the motivation to make a difference for others. This motivation first showed up in my work as a teacher, who was inspired to make a difference for students. It developed into a passion to support students, alumni and colleagues on campus in the pursuit of career development. Most recently my drive to make a difference for others has been as an administrator. In this capacity, I work with colleagues and employers to leverage resources to create opportunities for students and alumni. One of the ways that I believe this shared work makes a difference is in the society that we help to co-create.

In your spare time, what do you enjoy doing?

Travel with my husband (and walk areas we are visiting to explore), cooking, reading and researching, gardening, painting, and writing
