Assistant Director of Career Coaching and Education - Engineering & The Doerr School of Sustainability

Sharon Tran

Tell us something interesting about your background.

I grew up in a neighborhood with a lot of children (There were 13 of us!) who spent many spring and summer evenings riding scooters and playing all sorts of sidewalk games. I was one of the oldest kids, so I attribute a lot of my leadership, communication, and management skills to having to wrangle a bunch of children and keep them out of trouble while still allowing us all to have fun.

What has led you to your current role?

I actually started working at CareerEd when I was just a sophomore at Stanford. I started as a creative industries student associate and then transitioned into various roles over the years (even serving as a data analyst and communications coordinator) before I became a career coach at CareerEd. I’m lucky to have been able to experience CareerEd as a student, a student worker, and now as a professional staff member. I've always believed the work that our center does to make the career journey and job search process as accessible and clear as possible. I really look forward helping our Engineering & Sustainability students on their paths!

In your spare time, what do you enjoy doing?

I’m a huge reader and storyteller! I’m always looking for book recommendations, and I love dabbling in various creative mediums that allow me to explore what it means to tell stories. For example, some of the more interesting ways I’ve explored storytelling is through voice acting and being a narrative consultant for a friend’s video game.
