Ian Oliver
Tell us something interesting about your background.
I started working as an RA when I was 16 and continued to work in residential student support roles until I started my role in CareerEd. As a result, I've spent most of my life living in a dorm.
What has led you to your current role?
I studied astrophysics as an undergraduate but realized as I was approaching graduation that I spent more time focused on how to support my peers than I did on stellar accretion rates. I've spent my career supporting students through community development, counseling, and residential education. Before coming to Stanford I was lucky enough to spend five years as an instructor for life skills and career coaching classes. Through that work I gained a passion for helping students to develop the skills and knowledge they need to define and achieve success in their personal and professional lives.
In your spare time, what do you enjoy doing?
I enjoy hiking with my wife, developing new baking recipes, DIY, and all kinds of games.
